Every wonder what the produce codes mean on our fruits and vegetables that you see in the grocery store? Check out this photo.

Pretty nasty what they are doing to our food, isn’t it? This is why every year I focus on trying to grow more of our own food so we can stop supporting the grocery stores. If I shop, I focus on the cooperatives that carry lots of good food.
Please avoid the red and black produce codes. They are the worst and we definitely don’t want to support those companies that produce such awful food.
If you want a deeper dive into this subject, check out Eating Well’s website. I don’t know about you but my focus is on the green stickers that begin with a 9. I did a post recently about the dirty dozen/clean 15. If your budget is tight, you can purchase conventionally grown produce on the clean 15 list and then purchase the organic produce on the dirty dozen list.
Just remember when you are shopping, green is good!
